Butterfly

I saw this fluttering butterfly at the dentist office a couple of years ago.  I thought it was so wonderful and found one on the internet.  The first summer I didn't put it out much because I thought it was fragile.  But this year I discovered some fun things.  First of all it's solar powered so it only flaps when the sun is shining on the wing shaped solar panels.  It has blown off, but it's nothing more than a vinyl butter fly on a wire which is connected to a wheel.  The sun causes the wheel to spin really fast, which makes the butterfly flutter.  Pretty fun.  We've enjoyed it a lot this year.

New Purchase Hellmond Pillar Barberry

We found a great buy at Lowes.  We're looking for a different shrub in front bookending the flowers in front of the arborviate.  We needed something small and thin.  This works and it matches the other barberry in the front yard.

Bio Name:  Berberis Thumbergii Helmond Pillar

Weekly Report

The weather has been too cold and too rainy to get out side to eat or do anything.  Our yard is sadly neglected--at least by our standards.

The lilacs in the front are spectacular.  Both bushes are loaded with blossoms.  The moss phlox are also in full bloom and the spirea and the wonderful orange color.  This is the best time of year for our front yard.

The back yard is the same as last week--redbud tree, moss phylox, lamium and candy tuft.

Weekly Report

Front:  The pear trees are loosing their flowers now.  It's like wonderful white snow.  Some of the pink trees around cover the ground with pink snow.   The moss phlox are in bloom and the grape hyacinths. The lilac flowers are just starting to open. This is really the prettiest time of the year for the front yard.

South:  The tulips are in bloom.  I really wondered it they would make it because of the warm weather in February and then the frost in March.  But they finally made it.

Back:   The redbud tree and the crab apple tree are in full bloom.  The moss phlox are starting to bloom.   I don't think the dianthus made it.  But the gaillardia has a little bit of growth.   I have hopes it will return.  The bleeding heart, candy tuft and lamium are in bloom around the deck.

Redbud in Flower and New Tree Bench

The Redbud tree is in flower and so beautiful.   We finished the tree bench underneath.  It needs a few more rocks around it but it's ready to use.    I think we will really enjoy it this year.

Spring Report

Spring has finally arrived and things are starting to bloom and wake up.   It looks like many thing are have survived for certain, but the dianthus and the arizona sun are still iffy.  I also don't see any signs of the new lily bulbs I purchased last fall.

Begonia Tubers

I purchased 6 begonia tubers from Eden Brothers on line.  They came and we planted them in 6 little pots.  We have been carrying them inside and out to get them to grow.  They were small but everyone had some growth so I know they are good.

Look forward to many years of begonias in a pot.  I think I bought three white and three yellow, but I'll find out when they bloom.
